6 students expelled from Rajshahi University

Burglary at 5 TV channel offices

Unidentified burglars have taken away valuables worth over Tk 3.5 lakh breaking open the bureau offices of five private television channels in Rajshahi city.

Police detained Mohammad Kalu, the night guard of the building, for interrogation.

The burglary took place at the offices of Channel i, Channel 1, Banglavision, ntv and Islamic tv sometime on Sunday night, police said.

All the offices are housed on the 2nd floor of Poura Biponi Market in the city's Sonadighi intersection, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.

The miscreants took away laptops, computers, cameras, other electronic equipment and Tk 3,500 in cash from the offices.

Shibir man held in Rajshahi

An Islami Chhatra Shibir activist was arrested from near the Awami League office at Kumarpara in Rajshahi city Sunday night.

Arrestee Arafat Hossain Eti, 28, of Dharampur in the city, is a weapon and explosive expert of Jamaat-e-Islami backed student organisation Shibir, police claimed.

Eti is accused in more than three cases filed in connection with Bangladesh Chhatra League activist Faruk Hossain murder, Rajshahi University violence and attack on police on campus, police added.

Shahidul Islam, AL general secretary of Rajshahi ward No-30, found Eti in front of the party office at about 10:30pm and asked him the reason of his presence as he knew Eti as a Shibir member.

Eti replied that he wanted to join AL, which Shahid refused. At one stage, Shahid caught him and informed police.
